Kazakhmys, the UK-listed Kazakh copper producer, and Metalloinvest, the Russian iron ore and steel group, have held early-stage merger talks as they considered plans to form a metals group that could be worth more than $40bn. Shares in Kazakhmys closed up 6.2 per cent yesterday after the group confirmed it was in “very preliminary discussions about a possible combination of its business with a third party”, which several people close to the company said was Metalloinvest, a metals conglomerate controlled by billionaire Alisher Usmanov. The statement was issued after FT revealed that talks had taken place. The deal is being structured as a reverse takeover and should see Mr Usmanov emerge with a controlling stake. Analysts said there was considerable industrial logic for the consolidation of assets across the former Soviet Union into larger companies resembling western diversified mining houses.

Казахмыс и Металлоинвест провели переговоры по планам сформировать группу , которая будет стоить более 40 млрд. Акции Казахмыса выросли на 6,2 % после того как группа подтвердила предварительные переговоры с какой-то третьей стороной, но некторые лица слили информацию о том что это будет Металлоинвест, контролируемый Алишером Усмановым. ФТ проверила что данный факт имел место . Сделка будет структурирована как "обратное слияние" и должна показать что г-н Усманов окажется с контрольным пакетом . Аналитики говорят, что есть логика в консолидации активов по бывшему Советскому союзу в крупные компании похожие на западные добывающие компании.
